US Census Project at Asian Pacific Development Center

Asian Pacific Development Center (APDC) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to advance the well-being of the Asian American Pacific Islanders in Colorado. A very diversified workforce, the Center provides culturally appropriate medical and behavioral health services; health promotion; youth leadership; English as Second Language/ citizenship classes; and interpretation/translation.

APDC, one of the four grantees nationwide selected by the Asian American Justice Center (AAJC), is dedicated to increase awareness and education of all Asian American/Pacific Islander communities about census.  The Center is an official partner of the Denver Regional Census Center.

Mandated by the Constitution, the Census Bureau performs survey every 10 years. Every one is required to participate. Census data will help determine the allocation of over $400 billion federal funds each year for communities services:  highways, hospitals, school programs, training, etc.

In March, the Census Bureau will mail forms to all residents. The 2010 census form asks 10 questions and can be completed in 10 minutes. Questions include: if the housing unit is rented or owned, telephone number, number of household members, name, sex, age, race, etc.. Forms should be mailed back by April 1, 2010.

By law, your information will be kept confidential and cannot be shared with other government agencies.
APDC serves as the Questionnaire Assistance Center to help you fill out your forms.

Hmong International New Year 2009-10 Recap

Fresno, CA:  The Hmong International New Year 2009-10 in Fresno had its' official ceremony on Saturday, December 26, 2009.  Thousands of Hmong lined up on Chance Street and Butler Avenue entrances to get into the fairgrounds for the ceremony and to enjoy the many activities the New Year has to offer.  There were plenty of food, medias, traditional clothes and other vendors on display.  The New Year concluded on Saturday, January 2, 2010.  For picture viewing please go here.

Hmong Colorado New Year 2009-10

Brighton, CO:  On November 27-29, 2009, the Hmong Colorado celebrated it's 2009-10 New Year Celebrations at the Adams County Fairgrounds.  The celebrations began on Friday at 10 AM with an official ribbon cutting ceremony outside of the exhibit hall.  Members of distinguished guests from the Hmong community and elected officials, including, Honorable Mayor Nancy McNally, City of Westminster, Mrs. Cherylin Peniston, State Representative, Retired General Joseph Potter and a host of other elected officials were present with the New Year Chairman Fong Lee.  The three days celebrations were filled with many great cultural and modern performances from the young to the old. 
An estimated four to five thousand Hmong attended the three day celebrations that ended on Sunday at 6 PM.
